Nuclear Terrorism: Prevention of Thyroid Cancer with KI

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) is promoting a plan to distribute KI (Potassium Iodide) tablets to persons at risk from radiation exposure. In a nuclear emergency, terrorist or otherwise, radioactive iodine is released and is absorbed by the Thyroid Gland. Such exposure greatly increases the risk of Thyroid Cancer. KI blocks the absorption of radioactive iodine and this reduces the risk of Thyroid Cancer. Contact the ATA for details.
