Hope For Chemo Included Hair Loss
Hair Loss is a significant problem for many patients receiving chemotherapy. Parothyroid hormone related peptide (PTHrP) has been identified as a substance produced by hair follicle skin cells. PTHrP appears to be involved in controlling hair growth. A PTHrP like substance was studied in mice given chemotherapy. In this study hair loss was reduced by 81%. Clinical studies in humans are years away, but these finding are certainly encouraging.
This research is being conducted at Boston University, by lead investigator Dr. Michael Holicle.
