Update on Gleevec in CML

We have previously featured a story on Gleevec in the treatment of chronic mxeloytic leukemia. This targeted agent has revolutionized CML therapy. From the 43rd American Society of Hematology meeting we bring you this update.

Gleevec continues to perform well. Using Gleevec complete response rates of 91% have been reported. Resistance to the drug however has been noted in about 10% of patients after one year. Strategies to overcome this such as combining Gleevec with other agents are being studied. Despite this finding Gleevec remains a significant advance in CML therapy.
