Blood Transfusions: Acute Lung
Injury Found to be significant proble
Shortness of breath following the transfusion of blood products may signal a respiratory distress syndrome that can prove fatal. Possibly an immune eaction, this syndrome has been known for the past 22 years. The only currently avalable treatment is supportive measures such as oxygen administration. This syndrome underscores the need to be prudent with blood product transfusions and to emphasize agents such as Epogen, Procret, etc. in the management of Anemia
