Older Breast Cancer Patients Respond To Weekly Taxotere

Treating older patients (greater than 65 years old) with breast cancer is often made difficult by their intolerance to standard chemotherapy programs. Yet they can benefit from chemotherapy in the setting of metastatic disease. The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center in Nashville, Tenn. treated such patients with weekly Taxotere at moderate doses. The results were encouraging; 72% of the patients had either stabilization or a definite response. Side effects were relatively mild. This study and it's results are good examples of innovative uses of established drugs in situations where "standard" therapy cannot be administered.

There are many innovative ways that current drugs can be administered that are advantageous to patients. The above study amply illustrates this point. We will be reporting to you on similar novel drug trials.
