ARANESP Approved For Anemia In Renal Disease
For many years Procrit or Epogen have been the standard drugs used for the treatment of anemia due to renal failure and other etiologies such as chemotherapy. Patients sometimes were lucky and needed only 1 injection per week. Most had to be injected 3 times weekly. But this was a small price to pay for improving the anemia which prior to these drugs was refractory leaving patients constantly fatigued.
Amgen’s ARANESEP is designed to be effective given once a week. The drug has not yet been approved for use in anemia due to chemotherapy. Studies for this indication are underway and we will be monitoring this closely and reporting the results here at NetCancerAlert.Com. In the mean time we now have a new agent to better treat the anemia due to renal disease.
NetCancerAlert.Com will keep you updated on this and other vital subjects related to cancer and blood disorders.
