Did Greed Lead To The Dilution of Chemotherapy Drugs?
This is a sad story to have to write about. You would hope that the initial reports were wrong and the entire matter was just a mistake. But, alas, as events unfold it seems that chemotherapy drugs were diluted and for what other motive than greed? The sorry facts follow.
A Kansas pharmacist, Robert Courtney, has pleaded not guilty to 20 felony counts of altering drugs. Which ones?
Paraplatin
Cisplatin
Gemzar
Taxol
These are among the most frequently used drugs in cancer treatment today. When diluted, they lose their potency. If cure was possible using full doses (as it is in some tumors) the chance for cure is lost using diluted agents.
It is believed that 30-35 cancer patients were affected. A trial is expected soon and we will be following events closely for the court's findings…stay tuned!
