Good News For Pediatric Leukemia Patients
Childhood tumors in general and leukemias in particular, are chemotherapy success stories. Over the past twenty years survival has been steadily increasing due to new chemotherapy drugs and refinements in chemotherapy combinations.
From the German Childhood Cancer Registry comes the good news that survival for childhood leukemia patients at 15 years is 72.9%. Considering that childhood leukemias were previously almost 100% fatal in a short period of time, this news from Germany is highly encouraging. Future drugs and combinations will no doubt improve on these results until the ultimate goal of 100% cure is reached.
